Scott Hazard Impressions

I grabbed some pictures from Scott Hazard's website (http://scotthazard.net/home.html) and wrote a bit about each.

This first image makes the hole look like smoke coming out of the chimney. The shadows on each layer help emphasize the depth of each layer. It is such a simple image yet you take a second look at the picture to try and figure out what is going on.

The second image is very similar to the first, but it is in a greyscale. The cloud in the hole doesn't seem to be obstructed by the editing.

This last picture is mesmerizing. The hole helps bring out the tree. The branches seem to reach out of the image similar to a 3D movie. Thats why i chose this picture.

HDR Photography

What is HDR photography?

-HDR is an acronym for High Dynamic Range. This means the combination of two or more photos each with a different level of exposure. The variety of exposures lets all of the parts of the picture become visible. For example, imagine a chic hotel room without any lights on, with a large window in the corner that looks out to a beautiful landscape. If you were to take a picture inside, you can either have the camera properly exposed to make the inside look normal, and the outside to be whited out, or you can make the inside really dark and the outside to be coloured and exposed properly. However, to make a HDR photo, you combine them together so that room isn't blacked out and the outside isn't whited out. If you do it properly then voilĂ , you get a HDR photo!

Why do people use HDR?

-When you use HDR photography, your pictures end up looking very similar to what you might see if you were actually there. Because your eyes do this automatically, an HDR photo gives a more realistic representation of what something might look like in real life.

Album Cover

For this assignment I had to take three pictures of myself and put lyrics over the picture, creating a cool album art effect.

Dreams of Flying

For this assignment, we had to imitate the pictures from Jan Von Holleben's blog. The pictures created the effect that the subjects were flying through the air.

For my first picture, I borrowed one of my friend's skateboards. We also used a table placed on its side on the ground. We positioned the board on the table to look like it was doing a trick for the test shot. My final shot was with Morgan on the board, very enthusiastic she was.

For my second picture, I slightly twisted the idea of the dreams of flying project, and instead of taking the pictures from directly overhead I took them from the side. I had Gillian and Morgan pretend that they were doing backflips off the wall.

For my last picture, I had Jo kick Josh's butt because josh was making me mad and he deserved it. The two did an excellent job making the picture look very realistic. This project was really fun and I enjoyed it a lot.

ABC Project

For this project, I explored our school for objects, architecture, and nature where the shape of a letter could be seen. I did this for every letter of the alphabet, and then compiled them into one collage. We were also assigned to take the letters from our alphabet and make a banner of our last name, which was fun.

Hipster Photos

In this project, I had to use tools in photoshop to edit the pictures. Using the Gaussian blur effect, the black and white colour editing, a solid colour exclusion, and placing a light leak profile helped me make this photo look the way it is. This project was a good tutorial for me as it was my first time using photoshop to edit photos. :)
